Here’s an interesting tutorial. Make “handlettered” text from one of your existing fonts using Adobe Illustrator.
I’ve always been attracted to handlettering and fonts. Typography is my favourite aspect of layout and design. I love the letterform, I love how we can make words look different depending on the message we’re trying to convey. I’ve tried handlettering, very minimally. I now have a new appreciation for those who have and use this skill.
This article also appeals to me since I don’t seem to be able to make the time to practice handlettering and I know Adobe Illustrator quite well…learning how to “handletter” in Illustrator seems like the right thing for me to do at the moment. Sorry John Lennig! (the local handlettering master I met this year who spent some time with me showing me the tips and tricks of handlettering and gave me a paint and brush kit to get me started.)
